The Nuclear Materials Management and Safeguards System (NMMSS) is the national nuclear materials database. The accuracy of data is integral to the security of our nation and serves a key role in the U.S. Government's ability to maintain operational awareness of the inventory, status, and the whereabouts of nuclear materials.
The NMMSS 2012 Annual User Training will be held May 21-24, 2012 in New Orleans, LA. The four-day event provides a unique training and information sharing opportunity for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensees and DOE/NNSA contractors, representing the NMMSS, Nuclear Materials Management Team (NMMT), and Local Area Nuclear Material Accountability Software (LANMAS) communities, more effectively and efficiently meet the reporting requirements of DOE Order 474.2, Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (MC&A), DOE Order 410.2, Management of Nuclear Materials, and 10 CFR Part 74, Material Control and Accounting of Special Nuclear Material. The DOE O 474.2 requires that nuclear material accounting systems provide accurate nuclear materials information relating to receipts, transfers, inventories, and shipments sufficient to establish a complete audit trail from receipt through disposition.
The fast paced agenda for the 2012 event provides attendees with the opportunity to participate in focused training sessions and work one-on-one with subject matter experts on specific technical issues or concerns. Additionally, the event enables direct interaction with DOE/NNSA/NRC program managers as well as peers from other licensees and sites.
We will provide more information, including a detailed agenda and other planned activities, over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, please use the provided links to register for the meeting as well as to reserve your hotel accommodations. We have reserved a limited block of rooms at the government per diem rate.
I wish you a safe journey and look forward to a productive meeting.
